TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 7-year-old boy drowned in the Ciliwung River on Tuesday, April 25. Muhammad Fikri's body was only found yesterday morning in the waters of Untung Jawa Island of the Thousand Islands (Seribu Islands).
"He was found at 8:15 in the southeast of Untung Jawa," said Gatot Sulaeman, head of operations at the East Jakarta Fire Department.
Gatot said the body was discovered by the crew of a fast boat belonging to the Jakarta Transportation Service, which was sailing to Untung Jawa Island.
The captain of the ship, Hasanudin (43) saw a body floating on the southeast of Pulau Untung Jawa. He immediately contacted the search and rescue agency.
After being evacuated, Fikri's body was taken to the Kramatjati Police Hospital.
Fikri and his friends were playing by the Ciliwung River on Tuesday. The boy couldn’t swim but insisted on jumping into the river despite being told not to by his friends.
"His friends tried to help but Fikri was dragged down by the river current," Gatot said.
It is assumed that the boy got washed away very far because, at that time he drowned, the surface of Ciliwung was quite high and with very heavy currents.
